Q: How should the American flag be displayed?
A: Here are the key guidelines for displaying the American flag:
- The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
- When displayed against a wall, the union (the blue field with stars) should be at the top and to the flag’s own right (the observer’s left).
- When displayed vertically, the union should be at the top and to the observer’s left.
- The flag should never touch the ground or be used as drapery.
- When displayed with other flags, the American flag should always be at the center and highest point.
- On a vehicle, the flag should be mounted securely and should not be draped over the vehicle.
