A: The correct order for displaying military flags is as follows:

Q: How should the American flag be displayed?
A: The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously. When displayed against a wall, the union (the blue field with stars) should be at the top and to the flag’s own right (the observer’s left). When displayed vertically, the union should be at the top and to the observer’s left. The flag should never touch the ground or be used as drapery.
