General Lee's Headquarters Flag

General Lee's Headquarters Flag served as the flag for the headquarters of the Confederate General Robert E. Lee. It's design similar to the Stars & Bars flag that the Union was using, confused the Confederate forces to fire at their own men at the first Battle of Manassas in 1861. The stars were arranged to form the Bread Of Life (symbol of spiritual nourishment) pattern and represented the 11 states that formed the Confederatcy along with Missouri and Kentucky who were part of the union but had significant secessionist factions.  The flag was replaced by the Second Confederate flag in May 1863
