Star Spangled Banner
The Star Spangled Banner, also know as the Great Garrison Flag, flew over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem/song after seeing the fly flying over Fort McHenry after the battle ended. The poem/song became the national anthem on the United States in 1931.
This flag has fifteen stripes and stars to present the 15 states that were part of the union. This is the only official United States flag that has more than thirteen stripes.
